Maria Olivita Macalolooy White Downs practicing as "Levy" Downs is a licensed marriage and family therapist, MFC83790. She graduated from John F. Kennedy University with a master's degree in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Holistic Studies. She has been working in the field of mental health since 2001 and has worked in several treatment settings ranging from nonprofit agencies to an inpatient hospital. Much of her career has been focused in working with Stanford Children's Hospital as a milieu counselor and subsequently a parent educator. Levy facilitated the parent support group there since 2005 and has had extensive education and experience working with families of patients with eating disorders. Subsequently, Levy was a therapist and quickly shifted to being the clinical director at the Healthy Teen Project. Since 2015, Levy has been in private practice working with clients of various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Levy has a strong passion to work with clients, who would otherwise not have access to appropriate mental health care.
While her theoretical orientation is Psychodynamic, she utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and is working on certifications for Family Based Therapy (also known as the Maudsley Method) as well as Acceptance Commitment Therapy. She is a trained SoulCollage® Facilitator and finds the use of art therapy or play therapy to yield itself naturally to helping younger, non-expressive clients to begin to feel comfortable in the therapy process.
In her spare time, Levy enjoys listening to live music, being a mother and spending time with her family.
